If the idea of joining the military appeals to you, then you might be considering joining up. While the idea of being a military women might sound like something, you would love, you might be wondering if it’s right for you.
Making the decision to join the military shouldn’t be made lightly, it should be something that you think long and hard about. Unlike many other career opportunities, the military isn’t something you can quit when you feel like it. So it is important that before you enlist, you know that it’s the right career move for you.
To help you decide whether a military career is right for you, here are a few things to think about:
You need to love exercise
Military men and women have to be in peak physical shape, so a love of exercise is a must. If you can’t make it a block without getting out of breath, then a military career probably isn’t right for you.
As part of your on-going military training, you will be expected to exercise every day, running miles at a time. You will also be expected to compete regularly in sports events, including cross-country running. If you are already feeling bored at the thought, don’t sign up.
Confidence isn’t a must
If you have confidence issues – don’t we all, then joining up could be an amazing decision. There’s something about being in the best physical shape, which will knock any confidence issue you have, out of the park.
You should be a team player
If you are one of those people who dislike teamwork, then a military career isn’t right for you. A big part of being in the military focuses on teamwork, so being able to work well with others is a must.
The people you live, train and eat with become your team. In the military, teams are like family, often ending up living together in military apartments after their service ends. So you must be a team player to have any chance of being a successful military women.
You should be happy to travel
While you might get the odd opportunity to be a tourist, most military travel tends to be focused on training. It’s important to understand that while you will get to see some fantastic places, most of the time when you travel you will be working.
The other thing that it is essential you understand is that as a military women, you will be away from your loved ones for long periods of time. Ask yourself, can you cope with leaving your parents, sister, husband, and children for long periods of time. A big part of military life is travel, and sadly, that means being away for extended periods.
There are so many incredible benefits to becoming a military women, but sadly, there are also some downsides. However, as long as you are aware of both the pros and cons of a military career before signing up, then that’s all that matters.
